PREGNANCY: HOW SOON WOMAN CAN KNOW THAT SHE HAS BECOME PREGNANT?
First indication known to conception is failure of expected menstrual period to appear.
After 2 to 3 weeks of missed periods other symptom of pregnancy to manifest is vomiting. It is called as morning sickness also. It is called morning sickness because it occurs during early morning hours only.

Breasts and nipples begin to enlarge and undergo changes in contour and colouration.

There is an increased frequency of urine. Woman may feel lethargy and may sleep during day hours.
After 4th month there is a noticeable enlargement of the abdomen. At the end of the fifth month mother may feel life due to the movements of the foetus within her womb.

Can menstruation continue even after being pregnant?

Generally not, but in few cases for one or two months there may
be spotting. However any frank bleeding should be taken as warning sign and doctor is to be consulted.

At what stage doctor can say that lady is pregnant?
Except urine examination (after 2 weeks), physical signs of pregnancy develops gradually.

During 5th & 6th months only visible enlargement of uterus and genital changes suggestive of pregnancy develop to diagnose it.
What is 'quickening'?

It is the movement of the child which communicate mother of 'life'. It is experienced at the end of the fifth month. Strength and frequency of sensation depends on the position of the body, thickness of the uterine wall and amount of amniotic fluid.

What is false pregnancy?
All the symptoms of pregnancy can be simulated by emotional factors and certain conditions unrelated to pregnancy In such cases uterus does not enlarge and movement of intestinal gas may be mistaken for 'life', this is generally found in elderly ladies who are keen to have child birth.
Does the emotional state of woman affect the unborn child ?
Temporary emotional strains during pregnancy have no effect on the unborn child. Mother's physical illness may have adverse effect on the growth of the foetus.
