FEMALE SEXUAL MYTHS: GUILT ABOUT SEX
In the West, after the sexual revolution in the mid-sixties, women have become quite used to going to bed with a man without a sense of guilt. Women believed that it was for them a great emancipationthe freedom to say 'Yes' to sex whenever they wanted it. Many women, however, found that indulgence in merely physical sex without loving their partner was not a satisfying experience. The clock has turned full circle and many Western women now feel that a period of celibacy is a healthy experience. Frequent promiscuity in the past had left them anxious and unsatisfied in sex.
Free sex, except in a few high-society girls, is not so prevalent in India. The vast majority of women prefer to remain celibate till they marry. However, even after marriage a sense of guilt about sex still prevails in some women due to their stern upbringing. They have been indoctrinated that not only is sex dirty but it is a sin to indulge in it for pleasure. Sex is only for reproduction. This childhood indoctrination persists throughout their lives and unless treated, makes many women unresponsive in their sex life as they develop a guilt complex. The foundation of frigidity is often laid during childhood in such cases.
